Taking into account that:
A) As global supply chains are being reshaped and geopolitical balances are shifting at an unprecedented pace, ports are no longer merely gateways for trade. They are evolving into hubs of accelerated investment, critical nodes for capital allocation and the energy transition, as well as strategic instruments for the implementation of geopolitical policy.
B) Recognizing the strategic importance of shipping and ports, the European Commission has approved two key initiatives concerning the new European Ports Strategy and the Industrial Maritime Strategy through 2030. These initiatives aim to strengthen the European Union’s competitiveness, support the energy transition, enhance security and defence preparedness, and promote digitalization, ship recycling, and the resilience of European supply chains. A strong European maritime sector—with the Greek-owned fleet at its core—is a prerequisite for Europe’s strategic autonomy and sustainable economic growth.
Against this backdrop, our participation once again in SMM Hamburg 2026, with the support of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), assumes particular significance.
The exhibition is far more than an opportunity to showcase our companies and products. At the same time, Greece, as the world’s leading maritime nation—controlling approximately 20% of the global fleet’s carrying capacity and 61% of the European Union’s merchant fleet—possesses a dynamic maritime ecosystem that extends far beyond shipowners.
It encompasses ship suppliers, technical service providers, the ship repair and shipbuilding industry, and a broad range of innovative maritime services.
Consequently, Greece’s presence is not merely desirable—it is essential.
Ship suppliers constitute a vital link in the maritime value chain.
They ensure the smooth and uninterrupted operation of vessels by providing high-quality products and services, ranging from technical equipment, specialized spare parts and consumables to provisions and bonded stores.
At the same time, they serve as ambassadors of Greek production and exports, promoting Greek products, expertise and know-how in ports and maritime centres around the world.
Today’s maritime industry is being shaped by profound changes, including the green transition, digitalization, geopolitical developments, evolving market requirements and the growing need for sustainable supply chains.
Together, these forces are fundamentally transforming the business environment and creating a new landscape of opportunities and challenges.

However, maintaining and strengthening this momentum requires close cooperation among all stakeholders—the State, professional associations, educational institutions and the private sector—to support a modern and competitive framework for sustainable growth.
Strengthening international outreach, fostering innovation, simplifying administrative procedures and investing in education and professional training are fundamental prerequisites for the future.
